In preparation for the solo show at The Foster Gallery tomorrow, I have utterly and completely neglected this blog. How did this happen? Well, I have been networking rigorously on another site. The good news is that the images for the show have been well received there. I have been fortunate in that friends have been commenting and sharing and in general have been very supportive.
The Foster Gallery is serious about promoting their artists. They have posted four podcasts promoting this show, each containing an image and a brief conversation about the work. Plus they have a contract! Good people I say.
All that mentioned, I will leave you with an image of a drawing that will available on the Grab n Go wall at the show, available for purchase and take home the evening of the opening.

I’m in the process of creating fresh drawings for the upcoming solo show at The Foster Gallery in April. These will be hung raw (unframed) and available for purchase and take home during the opening.

Cats live with me. Rather, I live with them, since they are the ones holding the controls at the moment. What use are they doing with my SD card anyway? It doesn’t even have a tail. It was in disguise! I was going to take fresh pics and post today!
I will never own cats. Maybe.
Wait. What’s that I feel under the rug? Under my foot? It’s thin and small and square. It’s my SD card! My day can move along.

It seems like every time I make an extreme life change, the weather shows itself untamed.
One interview day for a job hog rooted my inner scape. That day I saw hail. The day I left that job, the twitch of a tornado. This time I heaved bags through ice and wind to get to where I am now. It was worth it for it being a better place for functional living.
Out with the items that couldn’t fit into this cube of a room! Art supplies and finished work steal most of the expanse, with a corner for sleeping. Everything is stacked, including the furniture. There are shaker boxes, atop lidded baskets, atop a cabinet, all relying on a bottommost supporting chest a family member built sometime mid last century.
For the move I made up a map for reference and taped it to the wall. With all the incoming pieces highlighted, the task proved to be, not without labor for great friends and family, but definitely orderly!
Next? How will I paint in this small space?

This really isn’t what it could be, this insomnia issue. I should be up and painting, but I’m not. That’s because I wake up feeling the alone-ness. And with Popeye parts. That’s when a part or parts of my body feel larger than the rest.
What I end up doing is either rolling over a bunch of times or going to a social networking site. Yes, I realize that most of those people aren’t actually there, but there are signs that they were! Unlike looking at the street where there might be nothing but gum wrappers, all left blank.
Maybe I should start painting portraits. Or maybe this will become my prime blogging time.
Solutions anyone, for sleep or for creating at this hour?

This time I took the image using two 75 watt daylight bulbs, placed on either side of the sketchbook. Not perfect, but better.

That last image was all the wrong color. Need daylight bulbs ASAP!

I went for a walk the other night and wondered, where are all the cars? I suppose everyone had gorged on holiday crumbs and were playing with their ithing-a-maroos. Having neither crumb nor i, this rainy end of the day called for a new daily planner (because I still do some hard copy stuff) and my favorite pastry.
I know, you’re probably wondering what all of this has to do with art. Not much, except that someone gave me some advice recently. It was about reward. That we should give back to ourselves after a long day of expending. It doesn’t have to be monetary, but I do find doing something outside of my routine to be more satisfying. For example, I do like a good daily nap, but a pastry induced dream makes it all the more worthwhile.
What will you reward yourself with in 2013?

It’s only a snowplow. But on this wintry island of insomnia, it is a sign of life. There’s even a person inside! Should I wave?
